At Leeds Tutor Company we provide academic support for students in core subjects. A really common question we get asked is how to get a maths GCSE quickly. Contrary to what a lot of students may think, this isn’t as easy as just sitting the exam. Standard GCSEs are sat in specified periods twice a year, but there are alternative options available.
GCSE exams are only sat in November and May/June. For GCSE maths there are 3 papers sat on 3 separate days within each exam period. These have to be sat in registered exam centres which means attending the exam centre on 3 occasions. Unfortunately, everyone in the country has to sit the exam at the same time so there is no possible way to do it on any day and time other than the ones specified. The lack of flexibility is why a lot of adult learners disregard the standard maths GCSE and instead do functional skills maths level 2. This exam can be sat at home and you can book it for a date and time that suits you, with options available all year round. Even though it is sat at home it is still ofqual regulated and so is accepted as a GCSE grade C equivalent. Results for functional skills are also significantly quicker with results taking a matter of days, when GCSE results take around 6 weeks. The other option on offer is the GCSE equivalency test. This is mainly tailored towards teacher training so isn’t as openly accepted as GCSEs or functional skills.
Depending on how fast you need results and the time of year, there are options for everyone in order to get a maths GCSE quickly. Generally functional skills is the best option for a lot of learners, due to GCSEs having set dates and longer results times. If you need extra support or have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at Leeds Tutor Company.
